In order to minimize the Spread of the Corona virus, experts call for "social distancing". Nonetheless, basic legal exam requirements are valid and unchanged. The following references explain our measures and should answer some often-raised questions. All temporary adjustments are due to the Corona virus outbreak and will be reverted, once the situation calms.

Cancellation of Exams starting March 16, 2020
All exams and oral exams are cancelled starting March 16, 2020
The department will offer alternative dates as soon as possible.
Master thesis deadline pushed to April 20, 2020
Due to the closure of the library, all open master thesis have their deadline pushed until April 20. Further evaluation will follow. If want to extend your thesis until April 20, you do not have to further apply, it will be automatically approved. In addition, after this date it might be possible to receive extra extensions, please contact us at MIEPP@uni.mainz.de, decisions will be made on an individual basis.
How can I hand in my master thesis?
Starting March 18, 2020 your MIEPP master thesis can be handed in electronically until further notice. In order to hand in your master thesis, send an e-mail from your students account to email@example.com.
The thesis has to be in PDF format. Furthermore, the statutory declaration has to still be signed personally. Thus, you can either scan or photograph (has to be readable) the signed statutory declaration and add it to the e-mail. The statutory declaration and the thesis have to be attached to the same e-mail.
The hand-in date is the date the e-mail is received. Once you sent the email, the hand-in is complete. There is no way you can change your thesis anymore (i.e. if you find a mistake after handing it in, you cannot send a new version on the same day).
The registrar’s office will not ask for further printed versions.
Hand in your master thesis via post. The post stamp counts as the hand in date. Please always check the requirements yourself (i.e. number of copies, binding, statutory declaration etc.)
I deregistered my exam after March 12, 2020. Is it possible to still participate in the retake exam?
Yes. Taking advantage of the short-term opportunity to deregister exams will not lead to any disadvantages.
I am now missing credits to start my master thesis

The Obligatory Semester Start Newsletter
Von: FB 03 - Studienbüro
Dear MIEPP Students,
Just as Mother Nature awakens with the birth of spring, I hope you are awakening from your semester break slumber and are gearing up for another exciting semester full of learning, experience and fulfillment (ideally). To help this rebirth process in becoming students once more, here is a light and happy newsletter for you to kick the semester off:
- New Student welcome
- Pub Crawl
- Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship 2019 Application
- KfW Internship
As you can already see by the topics, I was being serious when talking about a light happy newsletter. So let’s dive into it.
As every semester, there is a welcome reception for the new students happening in the Kasematten (basically the basement in RW1) and you are all warmly invited. The reception starts at 7 pm. on Monday April 15. It is, as always, a great opportunity to welcome new students, catch up with the old guard, have a couple of drinks and start the semester feeling good about being a student before the lectures crash you back down to reality. In short: come by, you will not regret it.
Of course, where there are new students to be welcomed, a pub-crawl is an important institution. The pub-crawl will happen April 25 at 6:30 pm. The meeting point is the train station Römisches Theater. Naturally, a welcoming pub-crawl is more fun the more people show up and in the past semesters it has established itself as a tradition that as many active MIEPP students participate as possible. So, turn up and have a good time.
As in a previous newsletter, I want to draw your attention to the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. Apparently there are not many applicants as of yet and they specifically asked me to tell you again so that you apply. I have attached the application for this scholarship to this email as well. Of course, if you think this sounds good and you are a man, I am sorry to tell you that you are out of luck and this is a women’s scholarship only.
Finally, one of your MIEPP colleagues is ending her time at the KfW and her position is opening up. An internship at the KfW is a great opportunity and it would also be awesome if we could have someone else from the MIEPP take over. More information can be found here: https://kfw-jobs.de/index.php?ac=jobad&id=3104 or you can email her directly to get more information (herrmann_annika(at)yahoo.com).
I hope I see you all Monday evening to kick off the new semester together, welcome the new students and have a couple of drinks together. I will at that point also be open to suggestions for the new official exam good luck dance (because judging by your feedback if this program is lacking anything it is definitely an official good luck dance). See you all then.
