FAQ Corona-Crisis

In order to minimize the Spread of the Corona virus, experts call for "social distancing". Nonetheless, basic legal exam requirements are valid and unchanged. The following references explain our measures and should answer some often-raised questions. All temporary adjustments are due to the Corona virus outbreak and will be reverted, once the situation calms.


University wide information

Cancellation of Exams starting March 16, 2020

All exams and oral exams are cancelled starting March 16, 2020
The department will offer alternative dates as soon as possible.

Master thesis deadline pushed to April 20, 2020

Due to the closure of the library, all open master thesis have their deadline pushed until April 20. Further evaluation will follow. If want to extend your thesis until April 20, you do not have to further apply, it will be automatically approved. In addition, after this date it might be possible to receive extra extensions, please contact us at, decisions will be made on an individual basis.

How can I hand in my master thesis?

Starting March 18, 2020 your MIEPP master thesis can be handed in electronically until further notice. In order to hand in your master thesis, send an e-mail from your students account to

The thesis has to be in PDF format. Furthermore, the statutory declaration has to still be signed personally. Thus, you can either scan or photograph (has to be readable) the signed statutory declaration and add it to the e-mail. The statutory declaration and the thesis have to be attached to the same e-mail.

The hand-in date is the date the e-mail is received. Once you sent the email, the hand-in is complete. There is no way you can change your thesis anymore (i.e. if you find a mistake after handing it in, you cannot send a new version on the same day).

The registrar’s office will not ask for further printed versions.

Hand in your master thesis via post. The post stamp counts as the hand in date. Please always check the requirements yourself (i.e. number of copies, binding, statutory declaration etc.)

I deregistered my exam after March 12, 2020. Is it possible to still participate in the retake exam?

Yes. Taking advantage of the short-term opportunity to deregister exams will not lead to any disadvantages.

Seminar Count, Exam Registration, Tons of Jobs and more

Dear MIEPP Students,


I am back and basically bursting with motivation. To prove it to you, I have an extensive newsletter for you this week. It will consist of:


-          Seminar count

So first the seminars. Similar to last semester, we would like to have a basic idea of how many of you are planning to take a seminar in the coming semester. As it is always a little hard for us to know how many of you are planning to take a seminar in the coming semester, it is thus hard to find a good amount of seminars to offer. In order to alleviate some of this issue, I would like all of you who are planning to take a seminar in the coming semester to send me an email, indicating that you want to take a seminar (or two). This is not the seminar registration; this is to get an overview on how many seminars should be offered. Of course, if you do not send an email now, you will not be excluded from the seminars later, but the close we get to estimating the number of seminar interests, the better we can cater to your needs.

So please:

Sent an email to MIEPP(at) and simply put seminar as the subject or into the email and I will count you. The deadline to write the email is June 24. If many of you indicate that you want to take a seminar there should be one or two extra seminars added to the planned number. Thank you for your support in that matter.



Secondly, as a public service announcement, exam registration will start on Monday, June 11 at 1 pm. and end Monday June 24 at 1 pm. I will write you another reminder next week but just so you simply cannot miss signing up for your exams, you get a reminder this week already.

Last but not least, the chair of Technology Innovation Sociology and Simulation Methods (Technik-und Innovationssoziologie, Simulationsmethoden) at the JGU Mainz is holding a student competition. The focus is to develop a concept to reduce air pollution in urban areas. Students of all disciplines are welcome to participate (more infos attached again).
